XP+(MVPC2004+Win9x) = i76 with XP?

Post by DIVER »

Still we are testing that...but
[At least]
It allowed me to install/play i76/nitro with XP.
It let me host nitro in bz911.com
I checked server status too.

Code name "Deicide" dropped a line on my site 06/Aug/16 that he could have installedand and playing i76(classic) on WinXP home with Microsoft Virtual PC 2004(fno.MVPC2004).
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtualpc/default.mspx
(It's free now) MVPC2004 site announces it won't support XP home but its working.

Before you start...
You need Win9x OS CD, also Valid Product Code.
(DAEMONtools and CD image file worked fine to install OS.)

How to do...
download and install MVPC2004 into WinXP.
installer will ask you to select OS, select win95.
installer will ask you to select RAM size, 128MB around?
next to the question above, select Create new Virtual HDD.
-end of MVPC install wizard.

Maybe after finished the install, MVPC2004 boots up and says
"no system files" or something like that.
It's what you see when your HDD is empty. you have to install Win9x now.
Drop win9x CD into your drive(or use DAEMON) and install the OS.

After you have done the work, you will see...
Windows 9x boots up in MVPC2004 in WinXP heh.

Once you click on MVPC2004-Win9x, your cursor stay in MVPC.
Use key board shortcut "right ALT+Backspace" to change tasks between XP and MVPC.

Your MVPC-Win9x has strange VGA/Sound/NIC drivers, but ignore them for a while.
Set HDD/CD drive DMA from system property and INSTALL Interstate'76 !!
I hope you can also install our road without any trouble.

Known Issues
* Hardware Graphic. (How to change VGA driver)
(as for i76 software mode, no trouble)

* Sound lag. (How to change sound driver)
(I have a problem with sound still)

* Network (you need not change NIC driver)
When you can not access the net, click MVPC icon in WinXP taskbar.
Select Win9x installed Virtual HDD setup, goto Network, set valid adapter then reboot ur Win9x in MVPC.

Yeah, I tried that on my computer with Windows XP Pro, and what I didn't like about it was that the only CPU speed allowed for the Windows 98 setup is 400MHz and the desktop kept getting windowed because the screen changed video modes, then it insisted that it won't allow full screen for the virtual desktop. Every time I tried to play the game in full screen, all of the colors were fucked up so I had to use windowed mode. Then when I tried to host a network game, I found that apparently the IP is always private since it has to connect through the host computer, which is the actual computer, or something like that.
Anyway before I got a chance to tinker with it the trial version expired so I haven't messed with it since.

Virtual PC is now free, and there is also another Virtual PC emulator program that can be found here:

I have not tried this emulator.
