Network issues

Post by Guest »

I'm trying to get a network game going and am very competent with networks but this has me beat for the moment.

I have a PC and a Laptop (both XP), networked together through a hub running TCP/IP and IPX. They can see each other and when I broadcast a game from the PC the laptop can see the game but not join. the "Notice:cannot open connection to game" message appears.

I have tried running with IPX alone (by unchecking it in the Network Connections box) but get the same msg. I have no firewall running and have even turned Virus protection systems off.

Can anyone advise a fix for this issue?

Sometimes it seems to be finicky, in fact you shouldn't have to disable the Windows XP firewall. I've found that I have to host with "this" computer and join with "that" one only for whatever stupid reason.

It's been brought to my attention that the user formely known as Enduro is an annoying little prick that thinks this community, especially myself, owes him something.

This is not the case and to illustrate the point his account has been removed. Subsequent posts from "Guest" at his IP subnet will be removed and the IP banned.

Since he is an IT "pro" he should be able to figure out how Interstate '76 and Nitro Pack work without our help, just like I did.

Maybe he'll learn something from this. Maybe not...
