umm hi..

dunno if this is right place..
I cant seem to register to ask in the tech forums.

Im trying to install Win98se and Interstate '76 for my younger brother. Im trying to do it onto a laptop that used to have Win XP on it. It came with a disc that has all the hardware drivers i need for XP and 98..

I have installed Win98 but when i try and install I76 it says that This Product will not run on your operating system. Please contact activision etc..

can anyone point me in the right direction as to why this is? i assume ive done something wrong installing drivers and stuff..

Sorry if this is wrong place but im at a loss without any PC knowledgable people.

ignore my stupid sister.. I got the game working in about 2 minutes flat.

One question though. Incase anyone knows. Would there be a way to get out the car models into some sort of 3d editor?
I read up here and can extract the zfs.. i think maybe the files are .vdf but searches on the net turn up just antivirus definition files so im stumped..
I guess its not gonna happen. but incase someone knows already???

thanks

You need King Mercury.

To the best of my knowledge, he's the only one with ALL the skills needed to extract, pimp out and modify the car models in the game.

You can extract all the files from the NITRO.ZFS with a ZFS extractor so you can see how the VDF and other car files are structured but the actual modification to the offsets for individual files eludes me...not like I can read hex.

The only way I know to find King Mercury is via ICQ so if you're still interested, I'll see if we can summon him for you.

I'm really curious as to what the hell the I'76 team used to make those models to begin with. I'll bet it was one they they made themselves and won't share. :(

See, that's exactly the problem I'm having, no matter what compatability mode I run it in, the game won't let me install it. I can get the free demo to run, but i can't get the actual game to install. I know I'm not payed to fix computers, but I build the damn things, so I'm not a complete idiot. If anyone could help me maybe find a workaround for that "This game will not run on your operation system" problem, please let me know. I've even straight copied the CD's to my HD and tried to patch it, but the patch says that i76 was not installed properly.

Once again, I would like you (or anyone for that matter) to show me where I've said "use compatibility mode"...ever...anywhere...regarding installing this game.

Start by uninstalling everything you've tried to install, delete their directories and start from the beginning.

1) Disable your sound card - ALL OF IT
2) Remove any USB controllers plugged into the system - If you've got PS/2 keyboard and mouse plugs, use them!
3) Install the game.

If it doesn't work, drop us a line...but I know I've typed these steps before...

ok, I deleted every trace of it off my HD, I disabled my sound card, disconntected and disabled USB 2.0 peripherals and support, still no success. I guess all I can do now is dig out my old computer and play the damn thing on there (if I even still have a functional Win98 system!).

Just a thought, could the fact that I'm running it off of CD images in virtual drives be a snag? I mean, I OWN the cd's, but they were too scratched to play ( found them in a box in the attic @ the rents' house.)

You need ICQ to make this easy. Go get an account and I'll help you out...but in a nutshell, you can't run the game off a mounted image in XP...

Get the data to the hard drive and execute the installation program from there...

...and get ICQ. This will go a lot smoother if I can IM to you rather than this game of telephone we're about to start playing here...
