Killing EXPLORER.EXE may be unnecessary in Windows 8 and above, however, I'm running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit and it is recommended or you get pallet corruption. This only holds true for original I'76, though. Nitro runs fine in game and only the menus are corrupted without killing the process....

Well...seeing as how I was playing the TRIP on my Windows 7 Pro 64 box this morning (without emulation and only killing EXPLORER.EXE) I think the information on some of these sites is "inaccurate" at best. However, there are some useful tidbits, you just have to sort through them and apply...

There are a couple features we're looking for in "final" patch and the No CD feature wasn't on the list.

I'82 has a No CD crack I think...maybe someone should take a peek at that?

Well, you technically don't need either of the patched EXE to play the missions, boss... They're mostly for on-line play so I've you've got something else to limit your framerate (FRAPS, nVidia Inspector, DXTory, et. al.) all you need to do is swap EXE's when you want to play the scenarios. :mrgreen...

I think you only need the CD if your'e staring with SPLASH.EXE or trying to play the missions...or are you talking about original I'76?

I haven't used a CD to play for years.

Well, the first link it to our patch developers site so you're pretty safe. The second link reeks of DJ Edyo and his illegal, unlicensed distribution of the game...
