That's how it worked for me- when you launch, the lobby goes. I don't know if there's a way round that, as even with the option to allow people to join afterthe game has started enabled, you still have to have everyone in the lobby, and pressing the go button before the host can launch. Then the lob...

I think Light meant that you shouldn't have an "installed" copy of the game there, just to run it from the copied directory (after uninstalling) after making a new shortcut with the compat set.

Be sure to only use software rendering if you haven't tried that.
Only real problems I had with 76 when I played it a couple of months ago was mortars falling short, and that was a d3d thing. I do still reboot into win98 though.

Yes. that was the point of my suggestion to get 98 on there while it's easy to do so.

If you set the first device as CDRom as you say (In the BIOS) put the XP CD in and reboot the PC, and it should never get as far as loading your installed copy of windows (if you have one)- the XP CD will load automagically and you'll be able to install from there. I've never tried installing XP ove...

I think the problem you had last time with your CD drives, is that standard DOS boot discs don't come with CDRom drivers. Most new PCs come with BIOS options to allow the PC to boot from a CDRom as the first device (usually it's in the order Floppy/HD/CDRom or similar), so a boot disc shouldn't be n...

Yeah. Post it up when you've got it. And leave it a while if you don't.
Of course, I'd like to read the whole story, but I'm not impatient. :)

Is it worth hosting a nitplyr.def (it's called something like that, I don't have one to hand) file with the sound option switched off, somewhere people can get hold of it? This would help in two ways: 1) Nobody would have to monkey around with their sound card to get the game running first time. 2) ...

I remember the stuff off the VOX forum, I just wish I'd saved it off now. I think I only have Redline Fox's stories from ICQ going back, but he's posted them up here now anyway. It's tricky to find any of the old sites. I wonder if archive.org (Is that the site?) has a copy of any... google for &quo...

I haven't had a chance to re-read the story itself, but the commentary in particular is a great read.

It cost me two seconds of my *very* valuable time to download.

It better be worth it!
