I'd recommend joining the Anet yahoo group. It's basically a forum except all the posts are emails to the members. Speaking of which, I am willing to pay a programmer to fix the DLL files and possibly rewrite the source for Anet so that it can be hosted from a more modern OS. I'm going to see if I c...

Highly relevant bump

Generate mipmaps doesn't really fix anything, the problem starts when fire is in view for some reason. The best solution I've found is to just tap Esc twice. Also, this is very important: If you're having problems with the screen staying black after exiting the game in XP, then do the following: Rig...

Virtual PC is now free, and there is also another Virtual PC emulator program that can be found here:
http://fabrice.bellard.free.fr/qemu/
I have not tried this emulator.

Yeah, I tried that on my computer with Windows XP Pro, and what I didn't like about it was that the only CPU speed allowed for the Windows 98 setup is 400MHz and the desktop kept getting windowed because the screen changed video modes, then it insisted that it won't allow full screen for the virtual...

Or:
1. Start the game and wait for the first menu screen
2. Press ESC
3. Select Audio Control
4. Set sound effects to level 1
5. Enter map
6. Turn the volume back up
Don't forget to turn it down again when you quit the game.

I dug up my retail gold edition CDs that I bought because 1. I didn't know any better and 2. I couldn't find a copy of classic at the time Now that I've had classic for a while, I tried to play it on XP and for some reason the game would crash if I hit anything. Once I installed gold edition and it ...

The only way I've found to fix it so far is to simply change something in the menu and change it back, then exit the menu. All of the textures get reset.
Edit: generate mipmaps seems to do the trick. 8)

Am I the only one who's textures get mismanaged after a couple of minutes? I decided to go from force trilinear to generate mipmaps to see if it makes any difference but I can't test it out just yet.

Sometimes it seems to be finicky, in fact you shouldn't have to disable the Windows XP firewall. I've found that I have to host with "this" computer and join with "that" one only for whatever stupid reason.

I've been doing that, and pretty much all I've gathered is that everyone there is in the same position and Dan Kegel doesn't really care about anything, though he does give constructive advice. Please don't shoot me for saying this, but what about asking The Wraith for guidance on this subject? Does...

Silly question, but I figured it would be worth a shot anyway: since GrizZz seems to be the man around here for that kind of stuff, would be happen to know someone who's willing to rewrite the Nitro dll files so that they work from behind a router and/or can be hosted from XP?

Those are also hosted here, too. I meant to ask Lightfoot about them but never got around to it. Maybe that's why I have trouble hosting?

That's what I did.
Anyway, I think that the only tinkering we need to try is with the settings of the Hamachi program itself since I think the network settings seem to be pretty well peaked up.
